40E Warhawk

The Old Flying Machine Company operated P-40E Warhawk NZ3009/ ZK-RMH in the UK from 1999-2003. These markings were applied in 2002 and are based on those carried by "White 663" / P-11151, the mount of Capt. Wang Kuang Fu, of the Republic of China Air Force. These markings of course being very similar to those on the well known American Volunteer Group (AVG) P-40s.

The scheme ZK-RMH carried added the codes 88 and the OFMC / Flying Tiger motif. The all over green scheme with Republic of China Air Force markings certainly added some variety to the circuit!

First returned to flight in New Zealand in December 1997, she spent the 1998 season there before being shipped to the UK in early 1999 to become one of the aircraft in the newly formed Breitling Fighters display team. Initially in a two tone Royal New Zealand Air Force scheme, it was slightly modified in the UK to remove the white tail.

In 2002 she was completely repainted into this AVG scheme, complete with the well known shark mouth. To recognize her RNZAF heritage, the serial from her service there was retained, NZ3009. She left the UK in 2004 and returned to New Zealand where she was sold on to the Old Stick and Rudder Company.
She remained active in NZ for several years but is now sadly grounded due to an on-going ownership dispute.
