"Grumpy"

An old favourite and airshow icon - North American B-25D Mitchell 43-3318 / KL161 / G-BYDR "Grumpy" was part of The Fighter Collection (TFC) from 1987-2002. Always a popular aircraft, she was the flagship of the collection and included the TFC Indian head motif on the starboard side of the nose.

In 2002 she was sold to Paul Allen (Vulcan Warbirds Inc) and became N25644. She undertook a few final UK appearances before her intended Atlantic crossing, one assumes to join his Flying Heritage Collection, but this never took place and she went into an extended period of storage at North Weald.

Having remained in the UK, she was sold to John Sessions' Historic Flight Foundation and ferried back to Duxford in 2008 where the Aircraft Restoration Company were contracted to underake maintenance and prepare her for the Atlantic crossing. She appeared static at Flying Legends 2008 and then took part in Flying Legends 2009, now registered as N88972, before crossing the Atlantic. She remains airworthy and has retained the "Grumpy" scheme which was completely reapplied during a repaint.
